FDS+Evac Evacuation Model: Recent Developments
Timo Korhonen - VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland
Abstract
FDS+Evac is an agent based emergency egress simulation model that is embedded in the fire simulation programme FDS enabling simultaneous simulation of the fire and egress processes. Recent developments in the FDS+Evac evacuation model are described in this paper. The main new features of the evacuation module are: much easier user input, better treatment of lost agents using herding type algorithms, agents aim directly towards visible doors, a counter flow model, and better treatment of geometries like theatres and auditoriums, where the obstacles blocking visibility and movement differ. Some of the new features of the programme are demonstrated and some verification and validation cases are also discussed in the paper.
